Gabion Boxes are rectangular wire mesh baskets that are used as retaining walls to prevent soil or sea erosion, hill embankments, flood control, supporting structures for canal beds, channel linings, river banks and dams etc.
Macson Gabions are manufactured with heavy galvanized and PVC coated wire to avoid corrosion. The wire mesh baskets are filled with rocks at the site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures and are placed in a structure to protect against natural causes such as earth slips, soil retention, floods, soil erosion, etc.
The Gabions’ strength to withstand these natural threats lies in its double twisted hexagonal mesh of steel wire which is reinforced by selvedges of heavier wire running along the edges and by transverse diaphragms. The design ensures that the wire does not unravel when cut thus making it possible to cut holes to pass pipes etc. They are also easily assembled without no specialized labor and can also be machine filled.
Common applications:
- Stabilization of earth movement and erosion
- River control
- Reservoirs
